Faculty at the CNS are investigating the roots, mechanisms, and consequences of neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular focus on autism and learning disabilities. Patients diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) feature a set of symptoms including social impairment, communications issues, and repetitive behaviors that typically are evident in the first few years of life.
Learning disorders are family of disorders that impact an individual's ability to learn and perform basic skills, such as reading writing or math, and can range from relatively minor to severe and impact many aspects of life ASD patients often also have associated learning disorders. Studies at the CNS are investigating the biology of neurodevelopmental disorders and the changes in the from the level of molecules and cells to whole brain function.
