Led by Professors Karen Zito and Diasynou Fioravante, the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience organizes a variety of community outreach activities during Brain Awareness Week.
Elementary and High School Presentations
Several times a year, our outreach teams set up a morning or afternoon of small presentations and activities at elementary and high schools in the Northern California / Sacramento region. Students visit different stations where they can learn about brain anatomy (complete with brains for students to hold and dissect), how optical illusions work, and basic concepts of neuroscience.
Davis Farmers Market
During Brain Awareness Awareness Week, our outreach team of faculty and students staffs a booth at the Davis Farmers Market with helpful information and interactive activities for all ages. Visitors at the booth can expect posters on topics such as brain disorders, brain anatomy, vision and more. For younger visitors, we have hands-on activities, workbooks and brain-teaser booklets. For adults, we offer pamphlets on neuroscience topics, such as memory, stroke, depression and autism.
