Neuroscience Graduate Program

I invite you to explore our website and consider UC Davis for your graduate studies in Neuroscience. We offer an exciting, rewarding and intellectually stimulating program of study that will prepare you for a successful career as an independent scientist and scholar. Our program provides a broad education in the major areas of neuroscience, including cellular and molecular neurobiology, sensory and motor systems, cognitive neuroscience as well as the biomedical neurosciences. We provide an academic and research program that is closely integrated with the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience, Center for Mind and Brain and M.I.N.D. Institute.

As a first year student in our program you will participate in research rotations in several different laboratories, and thereafter select a laboratory and a subject area for advanced study for your doctoral thesis. You will also participate in our annual research retreat (Lake Tahoe or Point Reyes Conference Centers), our exciting “Perspectives in Neuroscience” seminar series, and an exceptionally rich and diverse series of additional scientific, educational and social activities sponsored by our program. We are committed to providing you with outstanding academic preparation, advanced research training in major areas of neuroscience, access to state-of-the-art research facilities, and personal guidance throughout your graduate career at Davis. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the finest researchers and instructors in the neuroscience. Tuition, fees, health insurance and a monthly stipend are provided to you as a doctoral student in our program. We have an exceptional record of achievement in graduate training, with successful former students in research and faculty positions at major research institutes across the country and abroad. We offer a highly interactive and collaborative environment for graduate study, in a relaxed and informal research environment. Davis is an ideal location for students, with a small-town college atmosphere, yet only a short distance from such popular attractions such as the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. I encourage you to apply for admission, and look forward to the opportunity to hear from you and to tell you more about our faculty and students.

As you visit the pages of our website make note of research programs and specific faculty that may be of particular interest and feel free to either directly contact our faculty or get in contact with our graduate program coordinator, Cristeta Rillera (cmrillera@ucdavis.edu, 530-757-8845) with requests for additional information about your doctoral program. Also, please feel free to contact me directly if you have additional questions.
